Why is it so difficult to love oneself? Why do we always put us last when it comes to making choices? Why are we so hard on ourselves that we tend to sabotage our inner being?

Hey, it is time to wake up!

Here at MyTinyTalks, we would like to repeat time and again that you are a wondrous soul who is born worthy, valuable and so enough…let us make that inner healing a priority this time.

A Journey to Discovery

As I go through this journey to discovering my authentic self,  I have learned a lot about knowing the real ME in a deeper sense. Acknowledging and getting to know our genuine soul concealed through those thick walls of doubt, frustration, fear and other limiting beliefs is a challenge yet a beautiful path that is both rewarding and worthwhile.

Today, in this blog, I would like to share with you this very powerful poem that has empowered me through this soul searching journey.  As I Began to Love Myself is an amazing composition which took my breath away. Sooo impressive that I want to make sure this article reaches beautiful souls needing a nudge when feeling down and a sweet hug when lost and alone. Its message is so pure and profound that I am truly grateful to whoever wrote it.

You are a beautiful soul, thank you for your artistry!

Its origin is still uncertain although authors Kim McMillen and Iva Sofia Golcalves Lima are often mentioned and said to have connections to this beautifully made composition.

As I began to love myself completely reflects the way I feel as I am in this journey of reprogramming “ME” to the beauty of self nurturing, development and inner healing. May you find this piece of work worth reading and worth keeping as I did.

As I Began to Love Myself

As I began to love myself I found that anguish and emotional suffering are only warning signs that I was living against my own truth.

Today, I know, this is AUTHENTICITY.

As I began to love myself I understood how much it can offend somebody. As I try to force my desires on this person, even though I knew the time was not right and the person was not ready for it, and even though this person was me.

Today I call it RESPECT.

As I began to love myself I stopped craving for a different life, and I could see that everything that surrounded me was inviting me to grow.

Today I call it MATURITY.

As I began to love myself I understood that at any circumstance, I am in the right place at the right time, and everything happens at the exactly right moment. So I could be calm.

Today I call it SELF-CONFIDENCE.

As I began to love myself I quit steeling my own time, and I stopped designing huge projects for the future. Today, I only do what brings me joy and happiness, things I love to do and that make my heart cheer, and I do them in my own way and in my own rhythm.

Today I call it SIMPLICITY.

As I began to love myself I freed myself of anything that is no good for my health – food, people, things, situations, and everything that drew me down and away from myself. At first, I called this attitude a healthy egoism.

Today I know it is LOVE OF ONESELF.

As I began to love myself I quit trying to always be right, and ever since I was wrong less of the time.

Today I discovered that is MODESTY.

As I began to love myself I refused to go on living in the past and worry about the future. Now, I only live for the moment, where EVERYTHING is happening.

Today I live each day, day by day, and I call it FULFILLMENT.

As I began to love myself I recognized that my mind can disturb me and it can make me sick. But As I connected it to my heart, my mind became a valuable ally.

Today I call this connection WISDOM OF THE HEART.

We no longer need to fear arguments, confrontations or any kind of problems with ourselves or others. Even stars collide, and out of their crashing new worlds are born.

Today I know that is LIFE.

Learn to Live Life with Love

May this poem be a guide for each one of us to reflect, understand and see the beauty of re-learning who we truly are.

May it be a way to help us reprogram ourselves and discover how we can :

  • Tap into the deepest nature of our inner self.
  • Understand what we truly desire in life and have that boldness achieve it.
  • Accept all that was, that is and that will be… and c’mon, move on.
  • And finally, see all situations and events in our life through loves eyes. No judgment, just pure love.

Regardless of who you are and what you have gone through, always remember that you were born a beautiful soul. It is now time to make it a step further by pouring out love to yourself by discovering that superb and authentic you. That way, you can be able to live life to the fullest.

As quoted in my previous blog, a message said by Mandy Morris, a powerful Authentic Life Coach, an author and a motivational speaker :

Like an onion,

bravely peel off and let go of those built-in self-defense mechanisms hiding your true self.

Peel it off layer by layer.

Let go of doubt, fear, insecurity and all the rest.

Sweetly releasing and letting go of it with love and gratitude.

Peel it off…

Because underneath that is the real and beautiful you all waiting to be discovered.

Stop hiding your magic, it is your time to shine.

Every day, lets have a scan of our feelings, emotions and thoughts and let go of the things that don’t serve us. From this day on, let us only hold on to things that give us growth, happiness, inspiration and love.

Remember that each time, we are given the chance and freedom to choose how to feel each moment of every day. Why not choose rainbows and sunshine to guide you all throughout your day instead of complaining and being grumpy?

And to wrap this all up, I would like to invite you to join me in writing a journal each night and complete the phrase…

AS I BEGAN TO LOVE MYSELF I learned/I understood/I began to _________

Do this everyday just to know how you have practiced nurturing and loving yourself for that  specific day. Do this and discover how magically beautiful life is. Find your true self and the real meaning and purpose of your existence by starting with these simple practices.

With these small steps, you will then discover that LOVE is the secret sauce to appreciating life and the greatest gift we can pour out and give not only to ourselves but to all and everything around us.

As I began to love myself truly resonated in me upon reading it and made me realise  that if we want to find our purpose and make our lives more meaningful, we definitely have to simply discover, honor and LOVE our authentic SELF first (and then all else will follow).

Hi, life is hard enough and This is an area that many people have a hard time with. People are so hard on themselves and They are painfully aware of their faults. the ego is insatiable and it’s hard for people to ever really be happy with successes in their life. This is something that I go through myself, even though I have a lot that I should be grateful for. It just seems like there’s always something missing.

      Hello Jake,

Thank you so much for your message.
I agree, that we sometimes make it tough on ourselves. We blame us for our failures which often leave us unfulfilled, unhappy and negative about our tomorrows. We often forget to see and appreciate what is in the present moment because we are so occupied and worried about how that past experience will affect our future. Because of our busy and fast-paced life, sadly and in most cases, we neglect being fully present and aware in our NOW.

Squeezing in a little bit of self-love to our daily lives will definitely make a big impact.
Meditate. Practice the art of gratitude. Honour and pour out love to yourself.
Doing a little bit of these each and everyday in our busy schedule will surely make a big difference.

      Sending our love and cheers,
      Denise

Hello Denise! I really really appreciate what you write. Your writing is very good. And your poem is very beautiful.
Personally I really like the poem “As I Began to Love Myself”.
As you wrote, that we must learn to love ourselves so that we get empowered.

Honestly, I feel that in the past few years, I have been so busy with my work, so that I don’t have much time to myself. And because of that I felt depression and anxiety of myself. I sometimes feel useless and do not have life ..

Once again, thanks for your word that reminds me to be myself and love myself

      Hello Kylie,

Thank you so much for dropping by and leaving a me message.

Acknowledging, honoring and loving our inner self is something we owe to ourselves. So please try and do take time to say “ Thank you, o beautiful SELF for always standing by me, through thick and thin.” Feel the difference it will bring once you make this a practice.

Sending you lots of rainbows and cheers.

Thank you so much for this post. I have made a copy of that poem for myself. It is very concise and to the point and in just a few short sentences explains where a lot of us go wrong in this life.

Personally, I was drawn to this sentence.

As I began to love myself I refused to go on living in the past and worry about the future. Now, I only live for the moment, where EVERYTHING is happening.

Today I live each day, day by day, and I call it FULFILLMENT.

I believe that many people are much like myself and had very difficult childhoods. If you let it consume you, all the days of your life will be unsettled, uncertain, and unfulfilling.

I have learned to stop looking back on the past and focus more on what is happening right now. This is the only thing that we truly have control over. We cannot change the past or configure the future to our needs as we don’t have any idea what that future brings.

However, we can control today, this moment, and this very second, and that is the secret to a fulfilling life free of worrisome thoughts that do us no good at all.

      Hello Ray,
Thank you so much for your inspiring message.
Our time to be fully in the NOW is one thing that we owe to ourselves. I absolutely agree with what you have said that the only thing we can control is what is at the present moment, not the past and definitely not the future. And by focusing and appreciating what each day and moment brings, only then that we will be able to fully cherish the purpose of our existence… and only then that we will be able to find fulfillment in our hearts.
Take the lessons learned from our past experiences and free ourselves from those negative emotions that hinder us from moving forward. As they say, past is past. So let us leave it behind.
Forgive yourself and others. Practice the art of gratitude. Honour yourself. And most of all, view all things and events in your life with LOVE’s eyes, and all the rest will fall in to place.

Thank you once again, Ray. I am glad that this poem has resonated in you.

      Much love and cheers,
      Denise

The science knows it well: we’re only able to remember external experiences after having a clear image of ourselves build in our mind (when we call recognize our own image in the mirrors as ourselves) The same way (I guess) we can only be able to have feelings for others once we recognize them within the practice of those feelings with ourselves.

✓ You need to love yourself before being able to really love someone else

✓ You need to respect yourself before being able to truly respect anyone else

✓ You need first to trust yourself before trusting someone else…

Tere are some barriers that has became second natural limitations to humanity due to continuous educational intervention on our psique done by means (TV, Radio, Internet, Psicology professional…) telling us what we can’t do in order to sale us magic pill, cream or training program.

It’s hard, just because we are told it is. We are constantly exposed to trainnig on how to hate what we are to pursue a higher version of orselves.

We need no more. Within the seed of a three it is everything needed to create the greatest version of its type of three; also within each one of us we behold the seed for becoming the greatest version of humanity.

Thanks for sharing such a great poem!

Beautiful. Thank you for your inputs @Juan.

I completely agree. Allow me to use this quote from Ms. Eleonor Brown, an American Novelist. Here, she said that “When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”
Forgiving, honoring, accepting and pouring love to our inner self is the first and most important thing to do before we can serve others.

Together with this, existing in your truth by making a firm decision and choosing not to be controlled by our limiting beliefs, current programming and old behavioral patterns that are anchoring us to becoming the greatest version of ourselves is a thing that we have to resolve too. Living consciously in the present and letting go of old belief patterns will be a good start.

      Sending you rainbows and cheers.

      Denise.

I’m sure that there are many who can relate to this “Poem” and I count myself among them.  Perhaps the biggest thing that I have the most difficulty with is moving beyond the past so I don’t have to worry about the future.  Some things in my past are hard to get out of my head.

Life is going to happen one way or the other so I/we should just get on with it, as you say.  Can’t change the past so I suppose there is no point in dwelling on it.

We really do only have today so why do we worry about the future.  The Bible says that the future will worry about itself or something like that.  We only have today… tomorrow is not guaranteed.

I’m going to print this off and try to read it every day.

    Wayne

P.S.  Funny.  You said that things happen at the right time?  Well, I just read an email that I get every day and this is what it said.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
    2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Thank you for your message @Wayne.

Letting go of our past, especially the ones that hurt us the most, is a memory that is not easy to forget. But I believe that at some point in our lives we have to make a firm decision to reconcile with past issues and not allow this experience to take control of our NOW and our future. HOW?
      1. Pick up essential lessons that you can learn from your past.
      2. Be thankful for the lesson learned and RELEASE the experience with love. Let go.
      3. Forgive yourself for anchoring your beautiful soul to these negative behavioral patterns and programming.
      4. Live consciously to the present moment. Meditate. Practice an attitude of gratitude.

This was a journey I had gone through and am still going through. Not easy but slowly getting results that I am grateful for. Yes, the old has passed away, let us open our doors and be excited for the NEW that has come.

Sending you lots of rainbows and cheers.

      Denise
